It was a long tradition for the citizens of Mohács to take the ferry to the mouth of the Csele creek and visit the statue of Louis II erected in 1861( which has been renovated and reconstructed several times since then) and put flowers and lay wreaths on the memorial to commemorate the young king who was killed after the battle. This old tradition was reintroduced by the Béla Bartók Community centre and the town preservation society in the 1986. Today participants take a boat or a bus or cycle to the monument for the memorial service. Mohács-Palotabozsok-Somberek brassband plays prom and then the national anthem. It is followed by a speech by one of the members of the town preservation society, then they lay the wreaths and it finishes with the ’Szózat’.
